Flowstate and Festival 2018 present
Megafauna — Completed
Following their migratory route down the Brisbane River, three ancient giants have become lost in the city. Where they expected to find their seasonal feeding grounds there is now only a jungle made of concrete.
Designed and created by the artists at Queensland’s internationally acclaimed visual theatre company Dead Puppet Society, Megafauna will take up residence at Flowstate in a prehistoric installation when not wandering through the South Bank Parklands as a part of Festival 2018.
As they try to make their way in the altered landscape, these three visitors from a forgotten time provoke a reflection on how the landscape of our country has changed and the effect that humans have had on the creatures that share our island.
Cities of Cloud and Wire, will also feature numerous strange and wondrous digital creature projections, which will be unleashed into the rafters, corners and hidden spaces of the building.
Festival 2018 is produced by
Brisbane City Council and supported by
the Queensland Government.

Megafauna Puppets
By Dead Puppet Society

Allow the artists from Dead Puppet Society to introduce you to the techniques that they use to bring the Megafauna puppets to life in performance. With a focus on poetic illusion, the company will introduce the elements of focus, breath and gravity in a series of training exercises using brown paper. In bringing together these new skills, you’ll be guided in the creation of a series of short scenes as you create impossible and yet deeply engaging and new Megafauna characters.
