Flowstate and Topology present a work in development
Things — Completed
We’d like to talk with you about a few things.
What things do you never leave home without? What things are you carrying right now? What’s the story behind that thing?
What kind of things define you?
Answers to these questions will fuel a new collaborative hybrid work by Brisbane quintet Topology and New York-based choreographer, Jody Oberfelder. This site-specific piece will be developed at Flowstate through conversation and improvisation. Conversations and interactions are collected and these stories, melodies, and movements will be collated by the artists, weaving together a 40-minute narrative. Conversations will be recorded, with key phrases integrated into a soundscape of a live music score composed and performed by Topology.
The end result will bring together Oberfelder’s dancers and Topology’s musicians in a culminating performance. THINGS is an exploration into theatrical storytelling through music and movement. While performing an intricate new score, Topology’s musicians will move as one with Jody’s dancers, each responding to the musical narrative. This performance mode makes for incredibly expressive storytelling through sight, sound and movement.
Things is part of Flowstate’s IN THE ZONE residency.
